For a complete prophylaxis, our hygienists will use ultrasound, prophylaxis brushes with polishing pastes, chlorhexidine spray and topical fluoride. Always after a prophylaxis, our hygienists will explain to the patient the most appropriate brushing technique for his case.
In cases where a lot of tartar and plaque has accumulated, it may be necessary to use anesthesia to avoid discomfort to the patient. It can also be used in cases of special dental sensitivity.

Dental cleaning is a preventive treatment that consists in the removal of bacterial plaque and tartar found in the patient’s mouth. It is essential to prevent gum disease, cavities and bad breath, and to maintain a good dental appearance.
Dental cleaning is divided into several phases:
- Plaque detection: By means of instruments such as a probe, explorer, mirror, air… and/or chemical agents such as plaque developer, the presence of bacterial plaque on the patient’s teeth and gums is detected. With the developer, the patient can check where the calculus/plaque is, as it is stained with a striking color, being able to better assimilate the correct oral hygiene techniques (brushing, flossing, interdentals…) and leaving the office with a high motivation.
- Removal of calculus / bacterial plaque: An ultrasound (electrical device that produces high frequency sound waves) will be used to fracture and dislodge the calculus deposits without damaging the tooth. It is always accompanied by a jet of water to cool the ultrasound tip, which is in direct contact with the tooth, as it produces a large amount of heat, in addition to dragging the plaque.
- Polishing: once the bacterial plaque has been removed, we polish the surface of the tooth to remove stains and leave a smooth surface.
